What is the difference between jótállás and szavatosság in Hungary?
In Hungary, jótállás (mandatory warranty) puts the burden of proof on the seller; szavatosság (legal conformity) shifts more proof to the buyer after one year.
In Hungary, 'jótállás' (mandatory tiered warranty under Gov. Decree 151/2003) is stronger for consumers: the seller must prove the defect was not caused by the buyer for the entire warranty period. 'Szavatosság' is the EU-aligned legal guarantee of conformity (minimum 2 years), where after the first year the buyer may need to prove a manufacturing defect.
